ALTERNATIVE FORM OF EXERCISE - AQUA AEROBICS
I have had some clients who owing to minor injuries or some other physical hindrance, or joint pains found land training somewhat harsh and hence I usually recommend Aquatic or water exercise, a.k.a. water aerobics as an alternative form of exercise.
The risk of injury or falling is almost nullified in the pool environment when compared to exercise on land. It therefore is a much safer alternative for some people.
Aquatic exercise provides many benefits, including an ideal environment to exercise throughout the year.
Here are some benefits of Water Aerobics:
*Increase in muscle strength
*Builds endurance
*Increases flexibility
*It's a low-impact exercise, hence ideal for persons suffering with arthritis or those currently undergoing physical rehabilitation.
*It alleviates pressure on the joints
* It helps relieves stress
*Burns calories -Depending on the cardio activity, weight (including additional weights such as dumbbells and weight belts), water temperature, volume and buoyancy, the body can burn between 400 to 500 calories in an hour of exercise.
*Reduces blood pressure- Water resistance is not just a buoyancy feature to help work the muscles. In fact, the water pressure actually works with your blood as well and enables one’s blood flow to circulate more effectively throughout the body, effectively decreasing blood pressure and, in the long run, decreasing resting heart rate. This benefit means your heart is maintaining its productivity while putting less stress on your heart!
* It's a cooling and refreshing exercise because of the water element,as well as, a FUN activity
*It provides good bonding with others when done in a group
The buoyancy of the water supports a portion of your body weight making it easier to move in the water and improve your flexibility. The water also provides resistance to movements, which helps to strengthen muscles.
Working out in the water is one of the most therapeutic activities one can take part in.
Water exercises can also improve agility, balance, and cardiovascular fitness.
Water aerobics builds cardio, strength and resistance all while being easy on the joints and in a cool and relaxing atmosphere!

Water/ Aqua aerobics has become quite popular in Trinidad over the past couple years in Trinidad. It is an activity greatly favoured by women as it is less taxing on the body.
Ladies, there are many venues across Trinidad that offer aqua-aerobics classes. There are some that even provide the service for FREE -that is- at no cost , especially in the Community based pools.
Aqua -exercise is an excellent option for those not favoring land based exercises. There are numerous health benefits to be gained. For those of us that can't access these services at the pool of choice , you can conduct your own exercises in the water when you visit the beautiful beaches of Trinidad & Tobago.
Ladies it's a great way to just keep moving...
I personally like the idea of working out in water. It's cooler so obviously don't have to deal with the sweat factor and its seriously low impact so no real pain. I always try to get a workout when I go to the beach, on the sand and the water too. Great health benefits !
ReplyDeleteI like being in water, when I was young I could stay whole day in the water till my skin get all wrinkly so the thought of exerting oneself in water is appealing. Again great way to get your body in shape with less toll on your joints.
ReplyDeleteI have test to take a water aerobics class, but after reading this I am eager to try it out! Thanks for sharing!
